The TRUBLUE Speed Auto Belay Devices have been identified with a safety concern where the backup brake may not engage as intended, creating a risk of falling and potential serious harm. To address this issue, it is recommended to have the device repaired. This recall was announced on August 22, 2024, and affects approximately 220 units.

The Head Rush Technologies TRUBLUE Speed Auto Belay Devices in 12.5m and 16m versions are being recalled due to safety concerns. These devices are used by climbers for descending after speed climbing. The device is gray with blue handles, the 12.5m version has black webbing handgrip above the carabiner, and the 16m version has blue webbing handgrip. The model TRUBLUE Speed TBSD150-20 and serial number are on a label located on the handle. The auto belay devices have a serial number within the serial number range: TBSD00098 through TBSD01180.

Customers are advised to cease using the affected products and contact Head Rush Technologies for a free inspection and repair. The manufacturer is actively reaching out to known purchasers.

An incident involving brake failure and resulting in a broken ankle has been reported.

The recalled products were sold online at www.headrushtech.com between May 2017 and July 2021 at prices ranging from $2,800 to $2,900.

The manufacturer, Head Rush Technologies, is located in Louisville, Colorado, and the devices were manufactured in the United States.
