Magnetic Beads HIGH POWER 5mm AAA Grade
The Magnetic Beads HIGH POWER 5mm are being recalled due to safety concerns. These beads do not comply with federal magnet regulations as they contain magnets that are stronger than allowed and can fit within CPSC's small parts cylinder. When ingested, these high-powered magnets can attract to each other or other metal objects, leading to serious health risks such as perforations, twisting, blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning, and even death.
The remedy for this issue is a refund for the product. The recall was initiated on March 28, 2024, and approximately 450 units are affected by this recall. It is crucial to follow the recall instructions to prevent any potential harm from these non-compliant magnetic beads.
The recall involves 5mm Magnetic Beads HIGH POWER AAA Grade, which are small, spherical, loose, and separable magnets known for their strong magnetic flux. These Magnetic Beads were distributed as a strand in a clear, plastic bag with the label "Stateside Bead Supply" printed on it. The magnets are gunmetal gray in color.
Consumers who have purchased these magnetic beads are advised to discontinue their use immediately, keep them out of reach of children, and contact Stateside Bead Supply to receive a pre-paid label for returning the product and obtaining a full refund. Stateside Bead Supply is reaching out to all known purchasers directly.
Fortunately, no incidents or injuries related to these specific magnetic beads have been reported. However, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) estimates that there have been approximately 2,400 cases of magnet ingestion treated in hospital emergency departments from 2017 to 2021. Additionally, CPSC is aware of seven deaths since 2005 due to the ingestion of hazardous magnets, including two cases outside of the United States.
These Magnetic Beads were exclusively sold online at www.statesidebeadsupply.com from November 2022 through June 2023, priced between $7 and $9. The manufacturer of these beads is Boss Magnet in Taiwan, and they were retailed by Stateside Bead Supply Inc. based in Issaquah, Washington. The products were manufactured in China, and the recall number is 24-175.
